Why does it take up to 25 business days to make your bag?

We drive our producers a little crazy with our impossibly high standards. When we first started working together, we asked them to make their parchment leather lighter, softer and more buttery, while still preserving everything that makes it parchment leather.

Much to their dismay, we succeeded.

The result is an exceptionally luxurious version of this centuries-old material. In return, they drive us a little crazy by taking their time with our bags.

With parchment leather, cutting is one of the most delicate and important parts of the process. It takes an expert hand to make the most of each piece, so every Mehry Mu bag is entrusted to one particular cutter.

Naturally, a line forms.

Sometimes that line is very short. Sometimes a large store order is being produced just before yours and it is considerably longer. Once your leather has been cut, everything moves much more quickly. This is why we say up to 25 business days. Your bag might be ready in five, although please don’t hold us to that, or it might take the full 25.

Our producers are two entrepreneurs and childhood friends. One was working as a tour guide in the historic town of Bergama in Turkey when he found himself telling visitors about the region’s remarkable parchment leather. He called his best friend, whose family had been in the leather business for three generations, and said, “Why don’t we make it ourselves?”

And so they did.

When our founder, Güneş, met them, she worked with them relentlessly to develop the leather for luxury use, bringing the lightness and suppleness she imagined to a material with centuries of history.

Of course, life does not always operate on a 25-business-day schedule. Perhaps you are leaving for a trip and suddenly need a lightweight zippered bag, preferably with a talisman to protect you on your travels. Perhaps it is back-to-school season. Perhaps a baby is arriving and you need the chicest possible diaper bag.

If you did not manage to plan ahead and need your Cosima for a particular date, tell us when placing your order. We’ll do the best we can, however the official wait is still 25 business days. In any case, we believe it’s worth the wait.
